I was sitting overlooking the lake after a nice two mile walk. I was watching the fish who seem to be feeding at the surface today. They were quite active. Then I saw this large, graceful bird glide across the surface of the water. It was mostly gray but had prominent blue on its wings and a yellow and red beak. It then went into the water for just a half second and came out with a very nice sized fish in its beak. It landed in my yard and sat for a moment at the waters edge. Then with a flap it took off across the water to the far shore. As soon as I saw the blue around the wings and the way its neck made an S, the words Blue Heron sprang to mind. I wasnt absolutely sure, so i did a search and confirmed that is exactly what I saw. Magnificent. The sight of it restored something in me and I feel better than I have inn ages. It seemed to lift my spirit just when i needed it. It came back across the water after a while and made the most graceful stop as it landed on my neighbors dock.
