“I was so ill at the time but the care, concern and tender treatment was invaluable ”– Jeanette Every year, CancerCare helps 1500 people like Jeanette cope with the overwhelming changes that can come with a cancer diagnosis. We work with people affected by cancer and give them a place to talk, therapies to help them manage the physical effects of cancer treatment and the support to deal with anxiety, emotional distress about diagnosis or recurrence. You may have heard that 1 in 3 of us will be diagnosed with cancer in our lifetime, but here’s a statistic that you might not know… Current figures show that 25 people are diagnosed with cancer in North Lancashire and South Lakeland each day. CancerCare exists to support all these people, plus their families, carers and loved ones. We understand that those who love and look after someone with cancer can feel just as frightened, vulnerable and uncertain. We also offer bereavement support to anyone who has lost a loved one through cancer to help them come to terms with their grief. All of our services are provided free of charge, so those we help can feel safe in the knowledge that we will be there for as long as they need us; helping them to live with, through and beyond cancer.
