I was so pissed with many ESL centers here in Vietnam... so what do you think of my so-called cover letter to them? Not expecting them to reply me back but I hope theyll read it. WHAT DO YOU THINK? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Sir/Madam, Re: APPLICATION FOR A POST OF FULL/PART TIME ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHER Refer to above mentioned, I would like to apply for a post of either full time or part time English language teacher in your institution/school. Allow me to introduce myself briefly. I am an Asian from Malaysian-Australian background. I had obtained a Bachelor Degree in Law (L.LB) from a reputable Manchester Law School of Manchester Metropolitan University after successfully obtained a good result in my General Certificate of Education (GCE) A-Level exam from Loughborough University in Leicester; both in United Kingdom. I considered myself as street-smart person rather than a proud paper-smart person as I strongly believe that paper qualification is not any greater if compare to working experience; and I also do believe being a street-smart person have an advantage(s) in many ways. That’s also the reason why I never got myself into any law firm or any work related to my law degree because my passion was culinary art and hospitality industry. Therefore I worked rather hard from below to be at the position as stated in my resume attached. Whilst backpacking around Southeast Asia since December 2011, I’ve worked for many places such as restaurants, bars, resorts and also schools. Some of those were a paid-job and some just a volunteering job which both I enjoyed pretty much. Now that I am in Hanoi, Vietnam and plan to stay in this city for a little longer, I found out that a job as an English teacher is quite a popular option among backpackers/travellers. Somehow I wish that equal opportunity given to me regardless of skin/hair/eye colours (as this is what most ESL centres in Vietnam refers as “native speakers” in my long-time observations) as racism is not acceptable anymore in Western world and I hope the same will change in Asia/Southeast Asia. It should be more about teaching capabilities, how to interact with students, to make the learning experience exciting and not about any particular race as there’s no such thing as this race is supreme or better than the other race or from one to another. Or else, Mr. Barrack Obama won’t be a President of United States of America and all of us know that he is African-American, Ms. Penny Wong (she is from Malaysian-Chinese background) won’t be a Senator for South Australia, Mr. Philipp Rosler (he is from Vietnamese background) won’t be a Cabinet Minister in Germany and many more examples. If the Western world able to open their door, the higher positions and lots of other opportunities to people from different background, I hope country in Southeast Asia especially Vietnam, Thailand, China, Japan and South Korea will do the same. The attached resume of mine will provide you more information about my work experience. Ill be glad to attend a face-to-face or video-conference interview (if needed) to furnish you with more details. I can be reached via e-mail anitatahir@gmx or you may contact my Vietnamese mobile phone +84 9344 87825 . Thank you for your time and consideration. Yours faithfully, (Noor Anita Binti Mohd Tahir) Enclosed: Resume
