I was standing outside Wilshire station tonight in full uniform. I was so frustrated from monitoring the BULLSH*T in Ferguson and now LA, I needed a cigarette. A middle aged man was walking on the sidewalk and stopped between Wilshire station and West Traffic division. He had the THICKEST glasses I have ever seen. He had a look on his face as though he didnt know which building to enter. Frustrated with people, I aggressively asked Do you need help? He looked in my direction and apologized that he didnt recognize me as an officer for he is legally blind and only sees blobs as people. He further explained, he had just been robbed of his cane and cell phone and would like to make a report. I pointed at the front doors of Wilshire and told him the desk officers would help him. He thanked me and started walking in that direction. The area he was walking in has no illumination, and is dark, for tactical considerations. As he stumbled towards the darkness, I knew he would have a problem and ordered him to Stop! I approached him and told him to take my arm... He did. Together we walked to the doors of the station and I opened the door for him. He thanked me and seemed embarrassed I had to walk with him like a little old lady. Ill be damned. Regardless of the BULLSH*T thats going on in society today, this was a SOLID reminder for me... People need us. Thanks for reminding me.
