I was surprised to see the headlines of todays Russian newspaper Izvestia feature an article about a newly released (but as of yet not on youtube) version of Pharrell Williams Happy by the singing and dancing ensemble of the Russian internal security forces. There was nothing about the conviction of the Navalny brothers. The conviction is seen by the west as an underhanded ploy by Putin to silence his critics - part of an ongoing albeit bloodless purge that Putin has undertaken. It is fun to see what Izvestia chooses to publish when they have been given clear guidelines about what not to publish. The article about Happy is a way to reinforce how much Russians like western culture despite Putins efforts to criticize the west.
