I was taking with my son last night about the Ray Rice case and how much focus is on punishing him rather than why there is abuse towards women in the first place... if you want to end an abusive behavior, you need to understand what is motivating that behavior, and where there is abuse that is getting acted out on women the problem lies much deeper than that, there is something that triggers it, and THAT is what needs to be resolved if someone is to recover from their abuse of others, its personal, to the the person who does it... I liked this story below because it shows a clear pattern of what this particular man is upset with himself about that causes him to hit his female partner, if you read it you will see it too, so I wont tell you what it is, I think that most women truly love the men who abuse them and wish that they would change, but it isnt up to her to make that happen , its up to him to make that happen and taking away his livelihood will not help to make that happen... these men need support as well as the women who they have abused, of course the first priority is her safety, but it should also be his safety... no one is safe who feels the need to abuse others, so what is it he feels so threatened by that causes him to act in this manner? that is the real question that must be addressed, and is the underlying problem in all cases of abuse so of course it will not be resolved by her doing anything differently...
