I was talking to my Brother tonight. And he reminded me of - TopicsExpress

I was talking to my Brother tonight. And he reminded me of something from our childhood. It was about how I would make deals with him, mostly for my benefit and sometimes at his expense. I take full responsibility. I was the older Brother. But it reminded me of part of how I learned that. Im not passing the buck. I think it is a fun memory. I am going to see if some of my cousins..Sharis Diggs-Chandler,Aprile Rivers, Lori Diggs or some others remember. Especially my eldest first cousin, Michael G. Diggs. Monopoly. Michael was the oldest first cousin of the offspring Tommy Diggs, Cornelius Diggs and John Diggs brothers. Sometimes, the 1st cousins would be together and Grandmommys House before and during homecomming. We would do lots of things as cousins. One favorite thing that I remember was playing Monopoloy. The way I remember it, we would always lose to Micheal. He was smoooove. Always offering deals. Always rescuing the other players. It was Lets make a deal. And...if I remember the actual phrase he would use...I think it was: Tell you what Im gonna do! He would pitch the deal. And we would go for it. By the end of the day...he had run the board. And the funny thing about it...you would kind of hate that you got duped. But it was always funny. It was like Dag, he did it to us again. And it was funnier still. Because as you got older, you recognized the game he was playing on younger cousins...but you thought somehow...you knew better...and would finally beat him. Ha. Ha. Ha. I dont remember any of the Diggs cousins beating Micheal in Monopoly. Ever Ever? Evuh Evuh. But it was always fun. My brother was telling some stories about some recent experiences and relating them to how I used to run game on him. Wow. I feel that. And I had to smile. I was running game. But I laughed and passed the buck. Dude. I hear you. I own that. But back in the day...I was trying To Be Like Mike. And that was before Micheal Jordan. Michael Gary Diggs was the joint. The role model. If he liked Star Trek; we liked Star Trek. If he was going to the Air Force; I was going to Air Force. If he was gonna be an Astronaut, I was gonna be an Astronaut. If he shopped for school supplies in Martin, Tennessee at Freds Dollar store before going back to colllege? I was doing that too. He used to have a phrase of astonishment: Oh, Brother...man...I used that for a good while. So my family will take this one way and some of them will remember. Some of you dont know my people...so you will take it another. But I always intend a message and it is this. Man...it is way too cool...to actually have role models that you have always looked up to...right in your own family. From day one. My parents and grandparents and elders were very, very good. And I love and remember them. But my cousins...first cousins, second cousins, third cousins? Yeah...we were all different...but that was the next level of models. I hardly ever say it. But I loveded (LOL) yall back in the day. And it lasts today. Brian Diggs was talking to me tonight...and I was realizing how some of who I was then and now...is partially a product of you. Even some of you who might think I was not so close to (you know us Diggs cousins are so saddity and bougie). [thats supposed to be a good hearted joke...but I know you know]
