I was talking to my Dad last night about what it means to be a veteran. He joined the Navy in 1944 and served aboard a small boat in the South Pacific. His job was to bring food to those who were manning the early Loran A stations throughout the small islands that dotted the Pacific. Dad said that he is reminded on Veterans Day that the freedoms that we enjoy as a nation were delivered not by politicians making speeches and the media beating its collective chest, but by individual men and women of the armed forces who risked and often lost their lives to go into dangerous places based on a nations sense of what is right and what is wrong.
