I was talking with someone a while back about the world/economy. This person leans a bit toward socialism. Rather than debate the issue I tried to hear her heart. There was no desire for government control, but a sincere desire to see peoples needs be met. True compassion. I said its an Acts church that we are all wanting. Acts 4:32-35 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. 33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all 34 that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35 and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need. This is redistribution for sure. But it was done by apostles/men who you could totally trust and who were led by Jesus in doing it. There were no needy among them and I would add no greedy. Being filled and led by the sweet Spirit of God they were ALL more concerned about others then themselves. Selfishness fades in Gods grace. They ALL gave away what they had for others... the rich gave a lot most likely, but the poor also gave all they had for others not keeping anything for themselves. They were ALL of one heart and mind, being one with Gods heart and desires to see justice and to see that there were no needy among them. I remember years ago having a friend whos husband was a multimillionaire. She had had a baby and I remember God telling me to take them dinner. I thought, are you kidding, they can buy a restaurant if they wanted to. But felt God say, yes, but they need someone to show them love. Cooking being not my greatest gift, I struggled through a dinner and took it to them. They were So happy. He asked his wife later how I knew what his favorite mean was, which she had not told me. Im saying this in light of the fact that I think the none needy among them meant their emotional and spiritual needs were met as well. The greatest thing in receiving is not just stuff, but its knowing people did it for you, or even thought about doing something for you feeds the hungry soul for love. Socialism is mans counterfeit to an Acts church. No matter how much you do for someone under socialism, to not offer the love of Christ in the matter or at all is so lacking. We can eat till we are filled and then still die of loneliness. Or die spending eternity away from the God who created you and loves you with such a deep love there are no human words to convey it. IF we had an Acts church no one would see a need for socialism I think. How can we move toward caring for each other, and seeing the needs of people who are looking to socialism? He has a plan Im sure.
