I was talking with someone recently who thought are adoption fee - TopicsExpress

I was talking with someone recently who thought are adoption fee was too high, and they wanted me to give them a deal as they were considering adopting 2 cats ... so we made a few phone calls (and this was at the end of the year, so prices may have changed in the new year), to 3 different clinics; one in north Calgary, one in the south, and one rural. All very good, well respected clinics who are careful and thorough on their surgeries. South: For a 2 yr old 65 lbs dog spay, charges for the spay, mature dog charge, exam, 1 set of vax, rabies, bordetella and parasite treatment, cost totalled at $759.87. South: For a 1 yr old cat spay, charges for the spay, mature cat charge, exam, 1 set of vax, feline leukemia, parasite treatment, cost totalled at $545.56. North: For a 2 year old 65 lbs dog spay, charges for the spay, mature dog charge, exam, 1 set of vax, rabies, bordetella and parasite treatment, cost totalled at $877. North: For a 1 year old cat spay, charges for the spay, mature cat charge, exam, 1 set of vax, feline leukemia, parasite treatment, cost totalled at $533. Rural: For a 2 yr old 65 lbs dog spay, charges for the spay, 1 set of vax (rabies & bordetella extra) and parasite treatment, cost totalled at $449. Rural: For a 1 yr old cat spay, charges for the spay, 1 set of vax (feluk included) and parasite treatment, cost totalled at $282. Our fees for dog adoption is $400 and includes everything (1-3 sets of vax, depending on age of the dog), rabies, bordetella, tattoo and at least one parasite treatment, sometimes more. We also treat for any other health issue they may have from minor things like ear infections, to major issues such as cancer, dysplasias, necessary surgeries. Our fee for cat adoption is $250 for a kitten under 6 months, includes the alter at 5 mos old, 3 sets of vax including feluk, tattoo and parasite treatments. Our fee for mature cat adoptions is $175, and the spay, all required vaccinations, tattoo and parasite treatments have been done. As well as any other health issue ie fecals, bloodwork, surgeries, or whatever treatment the vet recommends. We dont have the financial resources to offer our adoptions at any lower than what we already do, or do so and risk closure of the rescue itself for being unable to afford the cost of their care and subsequent care while were sourcing new homes for them. Please know all of us at HCW very much appreciate the support of our community and the businesses who help and discount us already. We couldnt make it work without you. And for those considering adoption, we hope youll believe the fee is a reasonable one to give these animals a good and healthy start before they become part of your home.
