I was telling someone today about gateway foods for foreign cuisines. The idea is that many, if not all, cuisines have some dish that are a good starting point for novices. I went on a date with a guy once, years ago, who took me to a Thai restaurant (my first time to try Thai). And since I didnt know anything about the cuisine, he ordered everything. And I HATED it. It took years for me to try again and someone suggested I try Pad Thai. I did and loved it. Since then, Thai has become one of my fav cuisines (and fav countries to visit) and Ill eat all the crazy stuff now. So name a cuisine and what you think its gateway dish is...
