I was the winning bidder on this fabulous Fred Conway painting titled 2 a.m. Chicago, Michigan Ave. (c. 1955) today at the inaugural auction at Leslie Hindman Saint Louis where Bridget Melloy is the director. I was luckey enough to work with Bridget for 5 plus years at the gallery and I couldnt be more proud of her, great job Bridget! Fred Conway (1900-1973) painter, educator, and friend of Max Beckmann. Beckmann painted this wonderful portrait of Fred in the late 1940s when they were both teaching at Washington University.
