I was thinking about the whole VINYL verses DIGITAL thing the other day and I must say that the thing I really miss about when everything was vinyl is the whole social aspect of it. A DJ or a collector who wanted the tunes on vinyl back then had to get off their arses and go find it because unlike today you couldnt just order it on your phone or laptop from website like Gemm or Discogs. The whole experience came from the missions you went on to buy the vinyl. Myself I travelled all over the UK for my records as I knew some releases never left their local areas like London, Midlands, Manchester and even Scotland. The whole thing was an experience from th travelling down to meeting the guys who ran the shop who eventually became friends as time went by. I used to enjoy chatting to other buyers about what they had bought or what they wanted and suggesting shops where we could go that might have the big tunes that we really wanrted. On my return journeys home I would have every record out and read every detail on the label, the sleeve and see if anything was written on the run off if it was a white label. That is what I miss about the days of vinyl. x
