I was thinking about what to post for this #ThrowbackThursday when I remembered a nasheed by Ahmed Bukhatir I used to sing in high school. Its called Waqafa Al-Teflo, in English, Alone stood the child. I thought it would be a good throw back since its been 10 years since I began singing this song. But then I heard of the closure of Masjid #AlAqsa today and realized for the residents of Palestine, its not a throwback, but an unfortunate reality they face every single day. May God give them strength, and steadfastness, and forgive us for our inability to help them. Below is a translation of the nasheed. Alone stood the child with the darkness, Bullets and soldiers around him The child stood alone, stones piled around him In his eyes steadiness and determination He finds no help from his right He finds no protector from his left Every place around him is empty Every path he seeks is blocked Alone stood the child with the darkness, Bullets and soldiers around him The child stood alone, stones piled around him In his eyes steadiness and determination He stood at your gates O Quds And from there called his ancestors Their calls and dreams still alive in his eyes But the weak call vanished in the horizon As did the promises from those around him All the slogans fell on the floor All the voices and speeches silenced They all claim to be loyal to you But you are the only one truly free You O Child are the alone today in the field Where is the brotherhood? Where are the promises? And another screams, Where are the armies? Where are the men? Where is the steel? Alone stood the child with the darkness, Bullets and soldiers around him #TBT
