I was thinking about why there are wars, as I was listening to a young Ukrainian sailor being interviewed about the possibility of going to war with Russia in the next while. He was making the typical comments we hear about why he was willing to fight. Its fighting for my country. Im a sailor -- its my job. And I wondered why should he fight. Why is he not questioning going to war. Why would he risk his life, or consider killing other innocents? Someone in power is ordering the soldiers, the sailors, etc. to lay down their lives and for what? Why does that piece of land make a difference to someone in power? It certainly doesnt make much of a difference to the people of the land -- does it?? Maybe Im wrong.... But if they could function peacefully before, why get all riled up now, just because some leaders what to throw some of their weight and power around. What would the repercussions be? To save face? For the sake of pride???? For the sake of Ill show you Im better than you? Bullies. Bullies. Bullies... Where does that kind of mentality come from? Why is it still here? Its like a darkness, weaving throughout history. Why do we continue to believe it and act on it? Wheres our heart? Wheres our intelligence? Isnt it time we ask questions why we continue to comply to these orders, and why we have to have one group rise up against the other... Why we look for victory and defeat -- why that is valued? Maybe victory over our own selfishness and shadow side -- maybe victory in finding peaceful solutions, living in harmony..... This war stuff -- this land, money, power grab -- what the heck is that all about -- really.... All I hear are empty arguments. Look beyond the surface and the words are meaningless... And I think of all those soldiers who return -- not able to integrate back into society because of injury and damage, whether physical or spiritual & emotional.... is it worth it? The ones in authority, who sent them to war, dont even grace them with much (if any) additional help, to honor them for the sacrifice they have made....sacrifice for what and for who exactly? Has the harm that has been perpetuated on the soldiers, and on the victims of the fighting going on all over the world been of service to humanity? Do we even think about service to humanity anymore? What is the point of this world if not to show kindness to ourselves and others -- and be of service.... What kind of mentality is it that wants to subjugate women & children during wartime (actually, it happens outside of war too...)??? Grrrr.... Well, theres my rant for today..... ranting around in circles.... but we know, ranting doesnt bring peace and harmony. It starts within ourselves & grows from there..... I wish fullness of peace and harmony for all on the planet. Amen.
