I was thinking today about how much I have always loved to worm - TopicsExpress

I was thinking today about how much I have always loved to worm fish with a Texas Rig. Two great names popped into my head. One John Powell who is in the BASS Hall of Fame and the other Larry Nixon who will some day be in the Hall of Fame. They are known as two of the very best shallow water worm anglers ever. John Powell was an early innovator of shallow-water fishing with plastic worms, which were gaining popularity in the 1970s. John Powell regularly told anglers in the boat with him to set the hook quickly when they felt a bite instead of waiting. But he was also known for his patience and casting skills as well. He became the first angler to win consecutive BASS tournaments, in 1971 on Sam Rayburn and Table Rock lakes, and he qualified for six Bassmaster Classic championships. John Powell was the first Creme Lure Pro along with Bill Dance and was the Uncle to are fellow Creme Pro Staffer Dencil Powell and was one along with Bill Dance, Roland Martin, and Tom Mann who helped Ray Scott start BASS. Larry Nixon is a little more well known in this day than John Powell. John Powell won his second BASS Tournament he entered with a borrowed wooden boat he borrowed from Ray Scott. John helped pioneer shallow water worm fishing and if it be known Larry Nixon probably learned some from John. Larry Nixon won BASS events on Floridas Harris Chain back in the late 80s and early 90s in what was known as the Mega Bucks Tournaments where they had a marked course where you fished a different hole every hour. Larry Nixon figured out a way to fish Pads that I use today. I would have loved to fished with or against John Powell. I have patterned my love of Worm fishing after these two great Anglers, plus what I have learned by myself in the last almost 60yrs...I caught my first ever bass on a Creme Wiggle Worm from the Saline River in Arkansas when I was about 4 or 5 years old. I caught many Bass in Arkansas on one of the Creme pre rigged worms back in the day. Who is the person or persons that you have patterned your type of fishing after and what type of fishing?.
