I was told by a senior official of govt of india that after delhi elections and before seventh pay commission , the retirement age will be reduced to 58. This will save a lot of expenditure of govt as all those retiring officers will not be entitled to get enhanced pensions after the seventh pay commission has been implemented. Besides many senior officers will also retire. Almost all secretaries DGs and other officials will be out . Our govt plans to downsize the bureaucracy , lateral entry of experts in the bureaucracy and of course decrease in expenditure on salaries etc. This seems a welcome move as officers and govt servants who have done 58 years of service ,should retire and give reigns to the younger lots. I am sure that those officers who will be useful to the govt , may be re employed as consultants . They may be utilised in this way if they are willing to work. Let us see how it gels with the conviction of our PM . Our PM wants minimum government and maximum governance.
