I was toying with the idea of joining #AAP for quite some time. From the time of Anna Hazares fasts. My friend Natasha Ramarathnam post about joining AAP refreshed my thoughts. But I really made up my mind when I saw the list of candidates put up for my Lok Sabha constituency. - The Congress has fielded Priya Dutt. Her claim to fame is she is Sunil Dutts daughter. Her claim to infamy is that she shielded her brother Sanjay till even the court had no choice but to put him behind bars. She hangs out with Baba Sidduqui. Enuf said. - The BJP put up Poonam Mahajan. Her claim to fame is she is Promod Mahajans daughter. We all know his legacy. He of the telecom loot fame. He who could not even keep peace with his own brothers. And was killed for it. Though I have strong BJP leanings, I felt disgusted at the quality of the candidate they chose for me to elect. - The AAP fielded Phiroze Palkhiwala. Now if you are a Chartered Accountant of a certain vintage you certainly know his uncle the late Nani Palkhiwala. But besides that, he is personally known to me and Usha, having worked as colleagues with her for a number of years. He is a practising solicitor and does stage plays as a passion which we have witnessed. My decision was instantly made. I thought to myself, if not now, then when am I going to make a stand for my country. If I am not going to make a stand for a candidate of such eminence, then what is the point of being a so called intellectual who is an arm chair critic.
