I was trying to figure where the photo of me was from, used in the Sherlock mock up below from VUFOA. It was taken by Thai guide Noi in Chang Mai Thailand on 11 October 2006 after a long lubricated chat with the other guy in the photo. This was Jim Goodman who I had sought out before I got to Chang Mai. He had lived there since 1988 and was a writer and researcher of the hill tribe people in the Golden Triangle area, including northern Thailand, Laos and Yunnan. Jim had written some impressive books including The Exploration of Yunnan, Joseph F. Rock and His Shangri-La, The Akha: Guardians of the Forest and Children of the Jade Dragon The Naxi of Lijiang and their Mountain neighbours the Yi, which found a welcome home in my library. He had spent a lot of time with the Lahu people, which was the reason I had come to northern Thailand and Yunnan. I didnt know what Jim looked like. He advised look out for the guy riding the motorbike and a colourful motorcycle jacket. Me I was expecting a bespectacled aged academic. Well, he was not wrong - great guy full of fascinating stories. He wasnt phased by the reason I was seeking out the Lahu - led to them by genetic evidence from a hair sample implicated in an alien abduction experience in Sydney - the Hair of the Alien story of Peter Khoury. He gave as vital details and a map to find the more remote hill tribes north of Chang Mai. We found them there and in south west Yunnan. Another story ...
