I was very moved by this video. Most of you are not old enough to remember Regan. If you are old enough I assure you that most did not pay attention. In 1978 while Jimmy Carter was President I remember that Iran took American hostages. Carter believed we could talk to the terrorists. Our men & woman sat helplessly I believe it was around 250 people (not 100% sure but enough) Gas prices went through the roof for months nearly a year. Can you imagine if the last number of your license plate was an odd number, you could buy gas on Mon wed and fri, even was tues,thurs, and saturday. Station was open 10 to 3 ,6 days a week. Gas was .50 cents a gallon & shot up to $150 to $2.00 a gal. That would be like gas climbing to $10.00 a gal. Now days... same 3 fold. Wages were about $1.95 an hour. The economy was ruined. The Soviet Union was on the March in Eastern Europe. The reason he gas went up.. the Federal Government had stepped in & decided to regulate the price of gas. This was the result of their central planning. Things were depressed. Nothing was being built, people did not buy cars. It was depressing. then in the president race starting in 1979 Ronald Regan was the Rep. nominee whom ran against Jimmy Carter (as a kid we called him Jimmy Farter) He was a leader, he proposed to lift the Federal Gov. regulation of gas prices. He said that upon taking office our hostages would be released. This man gave hope to a very scared & depressed little girl watching my parents work so hard & suffer. I watched each debate & how Regan made me feel safe. Like someone who knew where to go was at the helm. Regan was elected in Nov. 1980. Before he even took office he started the mission to liberate our US hostages from Iran. They day he was sworn in those hostages were free. Iran knew Regan meant what he said. Within the first 4 years 6 million unemployed people were back to work. Over his 8 years 80 million jobs were created. He slashed the corporate tax rate. He had Michael Gorbachev so scared he let the Soviet Empire collapse. His famous speech was at the Berlin Wall where he challenged him stating Mr. Gorbachev... tear down this wall. The Soviets had formed after WWII the Eastern block of Soviet influenced & controlled nation states. Check republic, Poland, Yugoslavia, East Germany & others were under socialist or communist control. Regan with that speech liberated hundreds of millions of people from the Soviet Union (now Russia) after it collapsed. When he was interviewed after he left office Gorbachev said Regan spent us into collapse with military spending. We could not keep up every penny the Soviet Union had went to keep up with the American military & our people finally said enough we are broke & the Soviet Empire collapsed broke along with its rule over all the Eastern European nations the Soviet block. He also said he firmly believed that Regan would have used nuclear bombs on the Soviets. There was a news conference or a speech Regan was giving.. some say Regan did it on purpose. But before the mic was supposed to be on Regan announced My fellow Americans, Im pleased to tell you today that Ive signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes. Some say this was reckless as it put the Soviets on high alert. I do not think so. Regan knew Gorbachev inside & out. The Soviets though we had a Star wars shield to destroy any incoming nuclear missiles in the atmosphere. He knew his hand & played it. This tactic along with the 3 trillion in military spending collapsed communism. Regan was our last great leader. Clinton was not a leader... he simply enjoyed the benefits of a booming economy from the internet that resulted from that 3 trillion in spending & Star Wars & the new economic freedom & growth in the former Soviet block Eastern European nations of a united East/West Germany. Of a liberated Poland, Check & many more. That unleashed economies fueled the economic boom of the Clinton years. I feel sorry for the kids from the 90s & now... they have no idea what it is like to have a President whom is a real leader. whom was prod of America & made sure our enemies respected us & feared us. I wish they could clone Regan & let him be president again. I know my life was a better life because of the leadership he gave the world. God bless President Ronald Regans soul.
