I was very surprised to see the statements yesterday by Enda Kenny - TopicsExpress

I was very surprised to see the statements yesterday by Enda Kenny trying to demonise the hundreds of peaceful protesters who gathered outside the Greenhills Hotel on Monday. He himself on the day correctly described it the protest as perfectly legitimate and perfectly peaceful. This was an amazing demonstration of opposition to water charges, with festive songs sung, and a clear We Wont Pay message delivered. The protest, which was organised by the AAAs We Wont Pay campaign, did have the support of activists from the Shannon Town Branch of Sinn Fein, but I can say with certainty that there were no banners or incidents like the Taoiseach described. How the Taoiseach claims to have seen any of the protest amazes me, given that he seems to have snuck out in the back of a minibus. The protest was a perfectly peaceful protest, despite I may add, disgraceful attempts by some of the Fine Gael members to provoke the crowd. The only complaint I have heard about the protest was an incident witnessed by dozens, if not hundreds, of people, where a well known Fine Gael member from the northside of the city shouted into the face of an 11 year old girl who was at the protest with her father. The father, who has reported the matter to myself and the Gardai, says the Fine Gael member went nose to nose with the 11 year old girl and told her she had a big mouth, before he was moved on by the Gardai. That father is looking for the Fine Gael activist, who he doesnt wish to name at the moment, to come forward and apologise to his daughter. I would call on Enda Kenny to step in and send a message to his people locally to ensure this happens.
