I was warned, working on counterterrorism issues for HRW, that I would likely receive some strange calls and emails, but I’ve yet to experience much in that regard until this morning. I had a voicemail from a guy living out of his car in California who wanted to file a criminal complaint against the US government for torture because he claims they’ve been keeping him awake for years by sending voices into his head via the fillings in his teeth that call him names all through the night, such as “flag-burner.” He was convinced the FCC was in cahoots with dentists to install these metal-fillings torture devices into people. He was also seeking asylum in Spain and France to escape this torture. I found it not in the least bit humorous, as the man was clearly mentally ill. I honestly wish there was something I could do for him.
