I was watching Antique Road Show this evening because I dont have cable. A man had a book that was written in 1830. The author was not famous. The book wasnt well known. It was valued at 15-20 dollars. But this book was given to someone by Edgar Alan Poe. He had written a sentence and signed his name inside the book. So the book went from 15-20 dollars to 8-10 THOUSAND dollars! I think I must be missing a chromosome, a gene, or maybe 3 or 4 brain cells, that cause me to be less than impressed because someone famous has touched, owned, given, or signed some object. If I had such an object Id sell it immediately. The object is of no use to me but the money might be. I scratch my head in total bewilderment when I see the wide eyes and hear the trembling voice of someone who comes into ownership of such an object. I admire talent but just dont see what to admire by someone signing their name. Oooh, he actually held this in his hands. Like its the holy grail. It isnt the adulation heaped on the individual that I dont understand. Rather, its like youre saying, Im a piece of shit compared to this person. If I could just touch the hem of their robe. I do realize that Im the odd ball here. I was born with an ego so large that there was no room left to worship others. Random thoughts on unimportant things.
