I was watching this with something approaching awe when a universal truth occurred to me: We can all look at the same exact thing and see something totally different. If you watch this, what do you see? I see a performer, a dancer +. Someone who is an artist, someone whos taken an ordinary, elegant object who speaks to beauty with it and his body, and how the two harmonize together. I see innovation - Im guessing this guy didnt go to Ring Class to learn how to do this. Empathy and resonance for the crowd, clearly hes playing to them, establishing a rapport, moving through changes, and winding them up as surely as any politician or jazz master. If the guy believes in a higher power, I can easily imagine this being a form of prayer or adoration... not because its beautiful ( it is ) or because all transcendental things must be an expression of communication with the divine ( I dont think they do ), but rather because this level of mastery of anything in most people doesnt seem to be possible without aspiration that speaks to a power of some kind greater than you... and that sounds like prayer to me. Anyway... struck by this while relaxing on a Saturday night, in my own little world of Do Better. Thanks, Joe.
