I was wondering about peoples thoughts regarding so many fringe magicians/witches who just dabble a bit? As someone who delves in headfirst, I tend to surround myself with the same sort of people and so I obviously recognise the comments about the pink & fluffies who may turn up to practice weekend Magick, whereby they spend a lot of time wandering around poking about, but never really immerse themselves. I know from experience, that there is a bit of a habit for Magicians to distance themselves from this type of person, but I wonder what the actual way forward may be if anyone has any ideas? Many of them have obviously shown an interest, but may have been mislead by an external commercial element. ie; someone trying to make money from selling their so called magical wares and ideas. Would this commercial taster maybe get them to become real Magicians though, rather than just playing Harry Potter on the fringe? They obviously must have shown some sort of interest in the first place, before it was influenced by a magickal charlatan for the wont of a better term. Im lucky in that my Aunt was a chaos Magician form the 60s onwards and there had previously been Magickal elements within my family, so I wasnt led down a misleading path. But the general public, dont have such insights. To them, someone offering spells made to order and rituals created for a pre-determined price, may seem the norm. The system of trading such things has been going on for millenia, so its not surprising that people are still being caught out by it. The real arts, never advertise. They require people to source them out. Im just wondering why we arent all getting together (from all our Magickal groupings) to let people know that there are real arts out there, if they are willing to seek? Plus, should we not look at those who have chosen to go down the pink & fluffy route (sorry, I cant think of a different term) differently and stretch out a hand to show them where the real secrets reside? Just an idea, really. Looking for feedback.
