I was working at WUSS in Atlantic City, NJ, in the mid 70s when hurricane Belle made its way up the east coast. At the time I was living in a two story building. About 2 or 3 am, I woke up and decided I wanted to get a soda from the machine downstairs. Well I head out door only to be met by half the atlantic ocean almost at my doorstep. lol. not really but pretty darn close, the water covered almost the entire first floor half way to the ceiling. Im reminded of this now because of hurricane Aruthur headed up the east coast. I know sometimes I can be a really deep sleeper, but I wonder to this day, did anyone knock on my door to see if I would need help? Dont remember and dont think so. My point is weather disasters can happen any place and any time, and although Im sure things are better now than they were in 1976, if they do happen, take time to check on the elderly, those who are alone or infirm, take time to be a neighbor. Cause to be honest there was only one person looking out for me then and that was God. BTW by the time Belle reached the NJ coast it had weakened to a category 1, but that was still enough to cause 1 million dollars damage.
