I wasnt born on a ranch or in the country. I guess some would venture to say that Im a city slicker. However being born and raised a city boy. I grew up around people that considered themselves cowboys. My dad dressed us as best he could. Blue jeans shirts shoes and sometimes cowboy boots. I thought I was a little stud. My dad and couple of uncles were musicians. They had a band called Al Leal and the night owls. They played music around Oklahoma City. For many years. But the music they played was considered country & western music. My dad had a great singing voice. Which it was up to him to learn new hot cover songs. My point I guess Im trying to get at is this. Just because you were raised on a ranch around live stock, horses, chickens and such. Doesnt give you the right to say your a true cowboy. A true cowboy to me. Lived out on the range. Doing cross country cattle drives. Bunked in a bunk house with other men. Or slept under the stars out on the prairie while on a cattle drive. Now this is just my opinion. So dont go getting your balls in a wad. Your chaps might castorate you so to speak.myself I love good rock n roll music with a great dance beat. I love country&western music and some stuff called red dirt. As s disc jockey working for stations such as K.L.P.R. W.N.A.D. K.O.C.Y.Where back in those days great song writers for example Willie Nelson was termed in the midst of his career an Outlaw. Hence the term Outlaw Country. People like Willie, Waylon, Johnny Cash. Who were all independent recording artists. Some on major labels but borderlined.. Just because you sport a cowboy hat, western shirt, cowboy boots. Doesnt always make you a genuine cowboy. Im not, and I wore them too.
