I wasnt even a pupil at this school - but I cant imagine Durham Road without it standing there!!! And unless you are aged 100yrs plus - we have all spent our whole lives passing by it , or having good / bad memories of being a part of it being a school! But regardless of sentiments either way - isnt this a more pleasing and historically important alternative as opposed to another main entrance into a housing estate!!!!! Poor Alderman Wraith will be turning in his grave after putting up all of his hard-earned money in order to give the children of this town a chance to flourish beyond a future of hard , manual labour, and go out into the world to create a better future for themselves! My father attended the Alderman Wraith School and went on to be Manager of Accounts for the whole of the Smart and Brown site, and his younger sister -Margaret Lawson (Peggy) went on to become the highest paid Civil Servant in Whitehall and consequently became Principal of the Countryside Commission!!! How I wish she was still with me today - she would have taken on this issue and tied them all up in knots!!! AND would have definitely saved her beloved school!!!! Help me Aunty Peg - Im doing the best I can for you and all of the others!!!!! xxx
