I wasnt going to post it here, but my friends got such a laugh out of it when I put it on my personal page, I thought I would share it with you too. :-) Dear cake enquirer, Please know that midnight is never a good time to contact me. Usually I am asleep at that time and I do get cranky when I am woken midway through the night. One day Ill tell you about the time our telephone number was one digit short of the fantasy phone line in the next suburb - I can tell you a few chaps got a brand new type of fantasy call when I answered at 1.00 am! Also, between 22 and 27 December, I havent decided when exactly is not an actual date. It is actually Christmas week, so when I said I was unavailable, I thought you might understand why. I think I did mention the word holidays and very busy time of year? Or are all those people posting pics of decorated trees, sending out invitations for Christmas drinks or making long lines in the shopping centre just holograms sent out by the elves to add a little urgency to our December? (Come to think about it, that guy in front me in the Big Dub queue did look a lot like Rimmer from Red Dwarf....) Now, you might think that I can whip up a fairytale character cake topper in no time flat in advance of that date - despite me mentioning something about no availability in December due to current commitments. Truth is, anything made by hand takes time, and offering to pay good money for it means nothing if that time isnt available. And since I set the price, not you, it means even less than nothing. I dont mean to be mean, but thats kind of how it works... Wait! Are you bribing me to make a cake - would that be illegal? Could I be arrested? Ohhh I wonder if I am being pranked? Gosh that would be so funny! And then I could prank you back, sharing your email and phone number with my inner grinch, who really does LOVE a good prank-back. I might even be able to drag that old fantasy phone call response from the memory banks - though it was a bit blue, if I recall rightly (I did mention I dont do sudden-waking-in-the-night-to-the-phone very well, didnt I?). Im sorry if I sound like a cranky old thing, or if I have been a little sarcastic. To be honest, Ive carried this on much further than its actually worth and am having a bit fun with it now, and, if Im truthful, Im only putting off mopping the kitchen floor. Bit of a procrastination rant, really, and so this is probably undeserved. Sorry about that. Hope you find a way to get your cake in time - I did suggest a few people who could help, or maybe have a crack yourself. Im not above finding cake toppers in toy shops myself and honestly, kids will still love it. And next time, call me during the day, and understand that if I say I cant do it, I probably cant.
