I watched American Sniper tonight and frankly I am extremely disappointed. Chris Kyle deserved better. This movie took a true American hero and portrayed him as some bigger than life Hollywood character. I hate when Hollywood feels the need to make things bigger and better because it only diminishes the real man. If you haven’t seen the movie skip it and read his book instead. If you have seen the movie then watch this youtube/watch?v=7BNwzZtnM4Y. Do the themes sound familiar? War does not need to be romanticized there was no need to make up this story about Kyle and Mustafa chasing each other all over the desert. Mustafa is mentioned once in Kyle’s book and that is only because he happened to be his longest kill at 2100 yards which is pretty darn far but not a record, in fact it is not even as long as Hathcock’s longest kill. Does Kyle have the most confirmed kills in US history? Yes. Does he have the most kills in US history? Probably not. If you want to know the story of Chris Kyle read his own words don’t depend on the movie. He was an American hero just as anybody who puts on a uniform to protect others. But even he knew he was no Hathcock as Kyle said I had more kills, but that doesnt mean Im better than Hathcock is, I was just put into a position where I had more opportunities. I definitely cheated. I used a ballistic computer that tells me everything to do. So, I was just a monkey on a gun.
