I watched Inside Llewyn Davis and I must report to being seriously unhappy with the movie. Really, why make a movie where the main character is so unlikable, has zero redeeming qualities? There was no one in the movie to cheer for. The titular character is a self-involved asshole, so (spoiler alert) when he gets his ass kicked hard by someone, you feel no sense of queasiness, no sense of injustice, no sympathy whatsoever. In fact, you end up cheering just a little bit for the thug handing him the beating. The movie is a plod, a drudgery. Pure and simple, even if the music is a joy. And this is coming from a true Coen Brothers aficionado. I normally love their movies. Cant think of one I have disliked this much since Barton Fink, and Barton Fink had more redeeming elements than this one. I really cannot figure out what they were trying to do with this movie, but they should have spared us all the misery and loss of two hours.
