I watched a very interesting programme about JMW Turner, I had recorded last year! I thought I knew quite a lot about Turner, for instance his interest for sunlight and dramatic seascapes, and the power of nature over human beings, often represented as powerless, small creatures helpless in the Alps, or on ships caught in storms. I dd not know he was fascinated by the development of industry, however in Rain, Steam and Speed, is he praising industriaĺ progress or warning us against it? Do you have any favourite XIXth century painting?
