I watched an utter train wreck of a debate yesterday surrounding this video. A dear friend at one point implied - maybe half heartedly, maybe without fully committing to the notion, I suspect - that the ethnic, cultural, racial, class, or socio-economic background of the men in the video was a factor in the behavior of the men in the video. Yes, all but a few of the men seem to be men of color. It was possibly implied that due to these factors it may be an excuse against the behaviors, or perhaps give a measure of latitude: in their culture, it may be ok in context. All else, whether the cause of the behavior is or isnt due to those factors I listed, this stuff is wrong and inexcusable. Who the people are doing a bad thing means nothing. In some countries and cultures its an accepted norm that men may leer and stare at you and follow you as a woman or straight up grope you, up to some cultures requiring women to wear full body coverings by law, not drive or own property, or even have their clitorises and labias torn off. Should the men from there be given some latitude to act that way here because of their upbringing? Not a single damn bit. The only person who is qualified to rate something happening to them as acceptable or not is the person its happening to, and the law. The background of the person doing the act judged bad by its subject means nothing, is worth nothing, and excuses nothing. tl;dr no excuses for disrespecting ladies
