I watched press conferences today with Senator Claire McCaskill, President Barack Obama and Governor Jay Nixon, and I am thoroughly unimpressed with their lack of indignation and their insistence that the police brutality in Ferguson was just a few bad apples or that they dont want to comment on an ongoing investigation by local authorities. Bullshit. What kind of an investigation lets five days pass without interviewing key eyewitnesses to a fatal shooting—when theyre standing there just waiting to go on record? An investigation whose goal is not to seek the truth but to obscure it. The only sensible thing Governor Nixon has done so far is remove the St. Louis County police. Too bad it was four days too late. Too many of you high-ranking national politicians are spineless, selfish cowards so lost in the spin game youve forgotten entirely what it means to be a public servant. You are masters of talking and talking and talking and saying nothing of substance. You have a responsibility to condemn the illegal and deplorable actions of the police in Ferguson this week. There is no debating it. There is no talk of healing until you acknowledge that they were wrong. They were not doing their jobs. They did not uphold the law. They terrorized and assaulted innocent people with excessive force. They disregarded the most core Constitutional and civil rights of the people they swore to protect. It was the ultimate abuse of power and betrayal of trust. Yes, there needs to be due process of law and a proper investigation, but how much more video do you need to see to know that these police were committing criminal acts. Those who are found guilty should not only be fired, they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. And those who were complicit and stood by while these violations took place… they should also be fired and prosecuted. Then we can talk about healing wounds.
