I watched two movies this Memorial Day. Both were based on real stories. I recommend both. I cried during both. The first was Taking Chance with Kevin Bacon who plays a Marine Colonel who escorts home to Wyoming the remains of fallen PFC Chance Phelps who was killed in action in Iraq. The second was The Normal Heart with Mark Ruffalo and Julia Roberts about the early onslaught of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in New York before anybody knew what it was and the group of people who organized to fight the initial apathy and indifference of the government and the gay community. Both movies were about the effects of two very different kinds of wars. Both were about the heroes of those wars.
