I welcome and support the Veterans Affairs Committees decision to subpoena Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki and investigate allegations of appalling treatment at the Phoenix VA. In April, I called for a thorough investigation into the shocking allegations that up to 40 veterans may have died while waiting for medical appointments at the Phoenix VA hospital – and that two sets of records were kept by the Phoenix VA to cover up the deaths and delays in treatment. We must get to the bottom of this. Our veterans and the families and loved ones of those who died deserve answers.
