I went in for a doctors appointment yesterday because of lots of stomach issues that have been worsening since I arrived home from Africa. I have lost 10 pounds since Christmas Day and am constantly fighting extreme fatigue, dehydration, bloated stomach, and stomach pain. This complicates matters pertaining to my ileostomy. Thankfully, my doctor found the problem. I have Giardia Infection. It is a parasite that comes primarily from unfiltered water sources. While in Africa, we drank only filtered water or bottled beverages. But the last day we were there, we had ice cubes in our coke, and I am positive those ice cubes did not come from a filtered water source. Lesson learned. Getting medication this afternoon to deal with it and, Lord willing, I will be healed.
