I went on my first hawk watch yesterday on Hook Mountain, in Rockland Co., NY (near the town of Nyack). For anyone who has never experienced the raptor migration, the volunteers on the Hook were super welcoming, friendly, and SO KNOWLEDGEABLE! I hope any person interested in birds, ecology, or animal behavior have the chance to partake in observing this event. Yesterday we had sharp-shinneds (pictured), broad wings, bald eagles, osprey, merlin, peregrine, red tails, and always checking out the black and turkey vultures.
