I went through my whole life experiencing mystery symptoms, such as migraines, hives, muscle spasms, vertigo, nausea, insomnia, shooting pains, and more. At its worst, I thought my career was over. I couldnt go one day functioning normally. It turns out all of that was due to a food dye allergy. While my symptoms are rare, food dyes have been linked to behavioral issues in young children, as well as asthma and other issues. Food dyes are created from coal tar. They are not food, it isnt really edible. Its akin to eating a jar of petroleum jelly like nutella, or downing gasoline like gatorade if you ask me. And it is in EVERYTHING. Not just mac n cheese, but pickles, yogurt - even salmon and orange skins. My eating habits are a constant struggle because I have to avoid what people put in food for vanitys sake. What child isnt picky? I didnt eat any mac and cheese as a kid, not even the fluorescent kind. I think that article is an example of bad parenting. Your kid wont eat, so you blame it on the pretty colors, or lack thereof? My parents dealt with it the hard way. The coaxed me to try new foods, they told me just one bite, sometimes I had to stare down my food until I decided I was hungry enough to eat. Thats called being a PARENT. You know whats right for your kid. You dont just give up and feed them crap because its easier. This article makes me SO MAD. Its because of this mentality that I cant eat anything. And I dont want my kids to eat this stuff, even if they dont have the issues I do. Do the research, red 40 in particular is linked to serious behavioral issues (and while youre at it look for the study about the effects of refined sugar on kids).
