I went to H&R Block to do my taxes this morning, and while waiting I decided to go over to Dunkin Donuts to get a QUICK bagel because my hypoglycemia was about to kick in, and I needed some carbs to keep me going. I wind up being the fifth person in line and that line was a moving mighty slow. When they finally got to wait on me, I ordered a simple bagel with a shmear of cream cheese, and I told them that I did NOT want it toasted. The clerk said that they have to serve it warm. I said ok but as long as you dont toast it. She says emphatically, But sir, we have to serve it warm. No problem, just dont toast it, please. But we have to warm it! I understand. I just want you to know that we have to serve it warm! Can I please have a bagel with Cream cheese? Now there are about 10 people behind me in line. The clerk disappears and now the manager comes to the register and asks me what is the problem! That is what Id like to know, I replied. The manager said that they have to serve the bagel warm. Maam, I understand that you have to serve the bagel warm. I dont care if you need to sit on it, rub it back and forth in your hands, or zap the damn thing with a gamma ray gun, can I just please have a bagel with friggin cream cheese!!!! The line of people behind me started to laugh and then clapped. Corporations intimidate employees into not thinking for themselves. The employees think they have to function by all company mandates, and take no personal initiative to serve the public with common sense. ( The bagel was toasted!)
