I went to a Jewish funeral. It was very interesting. Some things I already knew and some I didnt. There is a guest book for names, but their werent any pictures or flowers. There were 2menorahs in back of the simple wooden box with the Star of David on it. There were a lot of Jews there wearing their little hat. Please forgive me I cant think of the name of the little hat. The woman died yesterday and was buried today. Jews are suppose to be buried before sunset. I talked to the undertaker and asked if she had been embalmed. He said, no. I didnt think they were. At the cemetery they just lowered the simple box into the ground. The Rabbi said it was customary for people to put shovels of dirt in the grave. You were to use the shovel and then put it back into the dirt. You werent suppose to pass the shovel to someone else. The Rabbi sang and then read the words to what he sang in English. In the funeral home there werent any mirrors anywhere. The undertaker said, its not about you. It is about the deceased person. Old tradition he told me the women didnt wear make-up and the men didnt shave because it isnt about you. They separate the family from the other people. They did this at first, but then they came and sat with us. It was very cool for a funeral to me, but of course it wasnt my family. The woman has a daughter who is a friend of mine. She is always getting hurt, falling down or something. I gave her a hug at the cemetery. I walked a short ways and I heard the tent at the site blow really hard. I heard somebody say Paulettes been hit. I guess one of the poles came loose and her her forehead. Lots of blood. Her son said I dont know if it looks bad. I told him shes alright. It wasnt deep or anything. It was just like a big scratch. Poor Paulette. Tonight they are having another gathering at someones house and its called a Shiva I believe. I have been reading up in their traditions in funerals. It is pretty interesting. I hope you learned something. Good night. The Detroit tigers are winning.
