I went to a local paint store with one of my new pillow shams to choose a sample or two of paint for the bedroom. They immediately began pulling out chips in various shades of beige. I was thinking Id like something other than a neutral. Oh, but the blue is very dark for a bedroom. I was thinking green, actually. You really need to pull a colour out of the fabric, rather than introduce another colour. Well, there actually is green mixed in with the blue, but I was thinking something with a little more blue or yellow than that particular shade of green. That green isnt strong enough, you need to pull one of the main colours out. Couldnt I just choose a colour that I like with the fabric, and go with that? Well, if thats what you want to do, but youll have to find a throw cushion or some curtains in that same colour. Why? Otherwise there will be no reason for that colour to be in the room. Good thing I checked with the experts - I was dangerously close to choosing a colour combination I liked without paying any attention to the rules.
