I went to a squat in South London with my friend Ana and artist - TopicsExpress

I went to a squat in South London with my friend Ana and artist von Hugo. Boy, is it rocking down there... A fantastic disused space - how is it possible that greedy developers have not put their claws on it yet? How refreshing to be in a proper squat, using the word refreshing loosely because a squat - it was, down the fragrance whose notes are mainly drawn from no-showers-on-premises aroma. There was a lot of fabulous people and fabulous stuff going on - including this bonkers performance art group whose name no one knew (no doubt, soon they will be doing the music and art festivals rounds but for now they are too underground). They were mad but in a good way. And then you had some stuff that was mad, as in deranged. But, hey ho, thats diversity, experiment - and out of those free flow trials come real talent. Now, onto Geisha Davis, performance artist - did she really need to go on one of the many Simon Cowells shows and BBC 3, the ill-fated channel, on Snog/Marry/Avoid (sounds idiotic as a concept)? (I just googled her - rumour had it in the squat that she went on Simon Cowell, so I followed the rumour and lo and behold.) Thats the route to fame nowadays - I say, not for everyone. Unless you want them (the judges, studio audience, TV producers looking for sensationalism) to take the p***. As I keep saying in my work, innovative stuff from the underground needs to cross-over in stages to make it more palatable for a mainstream audience. Or, stay underground - theres nothing wrong with that!
