I went to an auction in a near by town on Thursday night, they have about 25 tractors from multiple parties along with many plows and tractor parts....... As I walked around the grounds looking at the different colored tractors that were offered. I would stop once in a while, lean on my cane and marvel at the fact that at almost 70 years old I was probably in the younger group of tractor guys watching. I saw so many of my old tractor friends who could hardly get around, seeing the looks of reflection on their faces........I could not help think we are part of a vanishing breed boys. Kind of like the WWII era vets that are from that same era. Not comparing us to those gallant men, but sharing the truth about our aging farmers. Most of the tractors that were there were hand start, unstyled models..... John Deere and Farmalls Case, Massey Harris, Oliver and Allis Chalmers..............I watched several guys trying to hand crank the F20s, F30s, Regulars, As and Bs, most could only get a spin or two out of them. I watched one old boy walk up to a 37 B John Deere and grab the flywheel and slowly give it a turn. He got a determined look on his face and stood there slowly getting it to turn over, after a few minutes and 40ish looking kid walked over and said......Want me to get it going for you? My friend shook his head and said......No, I once owned this baby and intend to start it once more. He smiled and returned to his efforts after a few more spins it fired, died, he spun it again...............and it started. He smiled adjusted the throttle to about 1/4 speed............looked at me and slowly walked away..............I think there was a tear in his eye..........I know there was one in mine. Another instant farm memory..........................
