I went to college at Texas Tech and majored in Journalism. But - TopicsExpress

I went to college at Texas Tech and majored in Journalism. But World War II interrupted my formal education. I joined the Navy. However, I did attend one full semester, and several summer sessions after the war. I attended a couple of sessions at the University of Miami at Coral Gables, Florida. I also attended Maren Elwoods School for Writers in Hollywood. I lived in a small hotel on the corner of Sunset and Vine. I attended a couple of summer sessions there. Maren Elwood wrote a classic called Characters Make Your Story. It stayed in print for fifty years. That book first came out while I was living in Miami. And I decided to transfer because I was so impressed by her knowledge on writing. I enjoyed the creativity of writing and meeting others who shared learning from excellent teachers. And Maren Elwood was highly respected by all who attended the school. One of their main teachers had transferred from his position as head of the Northwestern Creative School of Journalism. He was a fine gentleman ( but he did not particular appreciate my reading a newspaper in his class.). My teachers all agreed that my creativity and writing were good---but what was the significance? But Hollywood was not good for me. A fellow classmate of mine after classes were over would go to a nearby bar and discuss writing and characters associated with Hollywood. We would drink beer, and close up the bar at two a. m. The odd thing about it, I did not drink beer while I was in the navy. But when I found myself sitting on a curb at two a.m., and hearing strange noises in my head---I knew it was time for me to say Good-bye to Hollywood. Upon learning that I was withdrawing from her school, Maren Elwood called me into her office, and encouraged me to stay in school. The Northwestern professor was listening in the adjoining office. And he, too, would have preferred that I stay. But the prodigal son, had awakened, and started a long journey back home. A lot of repentance on my knees before God in an Amarillo hotel would take place---and then I headed home. It was then that God started turning my life around. SO NOW I AM A SINNER SAVED BY GRACE, WHO WANTS TO TELL OTHERS THAT SALVATION IS AVAILABLE TO THEM, ALSO. There is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
