I went to my local drug store yesterday to purchase a birthday - TopicsExpress

I went to my local drug store yesterday to purchase a birthday card for one of my besties daugther. As I perused the selection of cards for children, I was struck at the overwhelming color of pink in the girls section. Not to mention the princesses, fairies and rainbows. When I glanced at the boys section, the cards ran the gamut from trucks, to Transformers to cowboys. And then I got pissed. Dont get me wrong, I am not blind to the gender-identifying aspect of our world. According to the powers that be (whoever the heck they are), Girls wear pink and boys wear blue. And never shall the twain meet. But dude, seriously, in 2014 we are STILL abiding by these archaic standards. We are STILL reinforcing this nonsense. Yes, I said nonsense. And I really cannot understand why this rule even exists. Like, who started this crap? And WHY? Where are the gender-neutral cards for kids? What if a little girl wants to be a cowBOY? What if a little boy like rainbows? Will the world begin to rotate in the opposite direction if boys wore pink? In the Hines household, aint nobody got time for that. Our boys play with trucks AND stuffed animals. They crash their Matchbox cars AND cuddle their Mickey Mouse. They chase each other around the house AND hug each other. I even wrote an article several months ago entitled My Sons Wear Pink because this subject so baffles me (I was conflicted about the topic at one point). I think the limited-thinking ones feel that if our children prefer to play with or wear the opposite of what they consider normal, the children will, heaven forbid, turn out gay. GASP! Have several seats with that one please. Thats a whole nother Oprah show. So I guess you can ascertain my stance on that one. There has to be a line of gender-neutral cards out there. My online search begins now. And dont get me wrong, I get that girls like ponies and boys like trucks. Im just asking for their to be as significant a display of non-specific cards to choose from as well. I refuse to believe that wearing a certain COLOR somehow confuses a child. I absolutely refuse! mommynoire/65208/momma-goddess-sons-wear-pink/
