I went to pick up a couple of messages from Facebook today, expecting the usual, and found an unpleasant surprise waiting for me. The Facebook Messenger app, which has been firing warning shots over my bow for several days now, has decided that since I apparently did not take their polite hints very well and it is now time for Big Brother to step in and strong arm me into compliance with their new program. The long and short of this is that I was not allowed access to my messages unless I choose to download the new Messenger app. But, do you know, theres one thing about me, I just hate to be pushed into something against my will, especially if I havent got all of the information on the issue. So I did my research, and I found enough to show me that I dont want anything to do with the Messenger app, its privacy busting policies, its large battery usage, or any other part of it. Im sorry that Facebook is so hooked into this, because it means that Ill have to uninstall Facebook from my phone to be able to text on my phone again, but trust me, being free of (one form of) Big Brother will be worth it. Ill still have Facebook on my computer, just not on my phone.
