I went to see the legend that is Hugh Masekela last night at the national concert hall. 75 years young and he wrecked the bleeding gaff! Not alone was his horn playing meticulously charming but his presence on stage, his persona if you will, was totally arresting like the presence of all real stars. He danced, he joked, he moved and flirted with, his audience. A great band and a great gig with a mixed crowd of Africans and Irish all tapping and shuffling in their seats in an attempt to restrain themselves from jumping up and dancing in the isles until they were encouraged to do so at the end.
