I went to the Soundwave Festival (an Australian rock and metal - TopicsExpress

I went to the Soundwave Festival (an Australian rock and metal festival) a month or so ago, and one thing that struck me there as opposed to an electronic festival (apart from the sheer volume of black clothing and flying skulls) was that each band stands or falls on their own songs. Its not as if they can have one radio hit and then do a set of mostly covers of other big radio hits from other bands on the bill, yet somehow that is acceptable in the electronic scene? Ive been working on trying to translate that mentality into my sets and really focus on playing predominantly all my own production (with a couple of minor exceptions). Shout outs to guys like OPIUO and I See MONSTAS who do this already. Its funny. I started in the electronic scene as a DJ, but being a DJ doesnt mean shit anymore. Even the DJ greats who are still out there crushing it like A-Trak and DJ CRAZE or Niall and Beni Jack Beats are crushing it cause of their production more than their crab scratches. If thats the case, and producing is now the number one selling point, and DJing is simply the best way to present that music in a live context, then now more than ever I should have an expectation placed on me that people coming to my shows want to hear as much of my music as possible. Right?! And there should be an expectation that you can back up your bigger songs not with Beatport Bangers but with your own production. Right?! *This post is an expanded version of an answer I gave in an interview recently.
