I went to the town of Whittier, Alaska on my day off a few days ago to photograph the Princess Ship in town and other things as well. Whittier is along the gulf coast about an hour drive west of Anchorage. There is a one lane tunnel that connects Whittier with the rest of Alaska. This tunnel is about 2 miles long. The Alaska railroad and the main road share the same tunnel. Since the tunnel is one lane the traffic can only run east bound into town at certain times of the day and west bound other times of the day. When a train comes all traffic gets out of the tunnel and trains have priority. Attached is a picture I took of the entrance of the Whitter Tunnel as well as the inside of the tunnel. I set my camera on the dash of the truck while going through the tunnel.
